Rongai approaches Kilimanjaro from the north near the Kenyan border. It is a quieter route with a gentler gradient and a drier climate, then joins the Marangu trail near Kibo for the summit and descent.

Rongai is on the drier northern side, so it is often chosen when other routes are wet, although April and May are still rainy.
The gradient is gentler, but the summit day is the same. Choose the 7-day schedule for better acclimatisation.
It is generally quieter than Machame and Marangu.
