Lake Manyara National Park lies below the Rift Valley escarpment and packs forest, lake and plains into a compact park. It is known for its tree-climbing lions, big troops of baboons, elephants and birdlife.
Birdlife on the alkaline lake, including flamingos in some seasons.
Best time
Manyara can be visited all year. The dry season from June to October gives the best wildlife viewing, and the green season is excellent for birdlife.
How to combine
Manyara is an easy first or last stop on the northern circuit, often paired with Tarangire and Ngorongoro, and close to Lake Eyasi for a cultural visit.
